Tim Nijenhuis

Born in Enschede, the Netherlands in 1975. I took private piano lessons since age 7 and taught myself to play guitar at age 14. Started performing background music in bars, restaurants and banquet halls on a regular basis starting when I was 15 years old. Joined the international gospel choir Continental Singers as pianist, toured with them in Europe in 1994 and 1995. Studied at a Reformed Bible college from 1995 to 1996 where I was in charge of the musical performances at chapel. Moved to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 1996. Started performing and promoting contemporary worship music in part with the Praise and Worship band Every Breath from 1997 to 2002, first as bass player, later as pianist/singer. Studied music theory and music history at Redeemer College, was part of the Redeemer Concert Choir and took private jazz piano lessons. Started teaching private lessons for piano, organ and guitar and made a living as mural painter and piano salesman/technician. Moved back to Enschede, the Netherlands from 2002-03, worked for the Nationale Reisopera as set-painter, stage-hand, extra and rehearsal pianist. Returned to Hamilton, Canada in the fall of 2003 started playing piano in worship services in the Canadian Reformed church. Started writing and publishing piano arrangements for the Genevan psalms in 2004. I am currently employed as music teacher at Guido de Bres Christian High school where I set up a band programe and where I teach vocal and instrumental music. In 2006 I started the Guido de Bres Orchestra, which has featured in the school drama productions of the musicals "Anne of Green Gables" and Lionel Bart's "Oliver". Currently I also regularly perform as a member of the Jazz Trio "Beg to Differ" as pianist and lead singer. Recordings include:
